The Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual celebration in Jinhae-gu, a district of Changwon City, South Korea, and one of the largest cherry blossom festivals in the country. There are two main viewing areas: Gyeonghwa Station and Yeojwacheon Stream.
Gyeonghwa Station
A former railway station built in 1939 and no longer in use — both sides of the old tracks are now lined with cherry blossom trees, framing the station beautifully. There’s even a retired Korail train engine you can take photos with. Walking the old tracks is a genuinely unique experience.
Yeojwacheon Stream
The main event area. Thousands of cherry blossom trees line both banks, and as you walk the paths along the stream, the branches overhead intertwine into natural pink-and-white tunnels.
Beyond the blossoms, you’ll find art installations along the stream, plus vendors and cultural events on the sides. It’s always been popular, but a recent K-drama filmed in the area has pushed crowds even higher.
How to Get to the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival
Driving
If you have a car, it’s about a 4.5-hour drive from Seoul, or roughly 1 hour from Busan. Renting a car isn’t common for most tourists, so this may not be realistic depending on your situation.
Guided Tour
This is what I did, and I’d recommend it if you want a stress-free day. A bus picks you up in the morning and takes you to Gyeonghwa Station, where you spend the morning, then brings you to Yeojwacheon Stream in the afternoon. It’s relatively affordable, and tours run from both Busan and Seoul.
Bus and Train
You can also combine buses and trains. From Seoul, take the KTX most of the way and transfer to a bus — about 3.5 hours total. From Busan, the routes I found required three transfers and over 2.5 hours on a bus, which makes the tour option more appealing if you’re coming from there.
Is the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival Worth Visiting?
If you’re in Busan during the festival, make plans to go if your schedule allows it. Over 300,000 cherry trees burst into bloom, blanketing the city in pink and white. Seeing that many blossoms in full bloom against the backdrop of historic landmarks and mountains is genuinely a sight to behold.
Beyond the blossoms, the festival offers a real taste of South Korean culture — traditional performances, art exhibitions, and street food stalls with local delicacies, all quite affordable. Bring cash, since many vendors don’t take cards.
Coming from Seoul is a tougher call. The long drive makes it less appealing for some, but if you have the free time and nothing else planned, it’s worth the trip.
